As Mike Cooney Balanced Montana’s Budget, Gianforte Voted for Nearly $2 Trillion of Deficit Spending in Congress
“In the scheme of things in Washington, $5 billion is not that much money.” – Greg Gianforte

Helena, MT – Last week, Lt. Gov. Mike Cooney rolled out his plan to “Keep Montana Working,” laying out his vision to support good-paying jobs and long-term economic growth in Montana. Mike balanced Montana’s budget *every* year he served in office while his opponent – Greg Gianforte – has voted to explode the federal deficit and saddle generations of Montanans with debt. After voting for nearly $2 trillion dollars in deficit spending, Gianforte said“In the scheme of things in Washington, $5 billion is not that much money.”

Although Greg Gianforte has missed more votes than 93% of his colleagues, his shocking attendance record hasn’t stopped him from voting for nearly $2 trillion in deficit spending. Moreover, Gianforte’s reckless spending has largely been geared towards tax cuts for millionaires like himself, while sticking working Montanans with the bill. After all, Greg Gianforte believes that “the fairest tax is the one you pay, and I don’t.”

“After building a business based on outsourcing American jobs, Greg Gianforte went to D.C. and started spending trillions of taxpayer dollars. Meanwhile, Mike Cooney has spent his entire career serving Montanans, and balanced the state budget every year he’s been in office,” said Deputy Communications Director Matt Fidel. “$5 billion may not be a lot of money for a multimillionaire like Gianforte, but it is sure is for the rest of Montanans.”
