Daines spent years “actively courting senior Communist Party officials,” was accused of doing the country’s “political bidding” and the Ambassador even called Daines “China’s ambassador in Congress.” Now, the Chinese government is sparing Daines while it sanctions his Republican colleagues, despite Daines’ election-year pivot to adopting tough-on-China talking points from his Washington, DC party bosses.
“As the Chinese government retaliates against Republican senators, they’ve noticeably spared their ‘cheerleader’ Steve Daines who has spent years pushing for deeper U.S.-China relations,” said MDP Communications Advisor Christina Wilkes. “It’s clear that Daines’ tough talk is just empty words meant to save his political career.”
