Only two years ago, Daines expressed concerns over taking such a long recess, saying “I’d never heard of such a thing as taking a month off in the summertime” – adding that it was important to “stay here, and do the work of the people.” Now that Daines’ reelection campaign is in jeopardy, Daines apparently no longer holds that view.
As a result of Daines’ inaction, vital needs for Montanans are going unfunded – including resources for state and local governments, our schools, the Postal Service and workers who’ve lost their jobs due to this crisis.
Making matters worse, the country is barrelling towards a government shutdown because Daines and his colleagues on the Appropriations Committee have failed to pass spending bills in a shameless attempt to avoid taking “any controversial votes” until they are “safely past Election Day.”
“Senator Daines just let another week go by without taking action to help Montanans in this national emergency,” said MDP Communications Advisor Christina Wilkes. “Do Nothing Daines owes it to his constituents to show up to work and fight for them – but instead he’s more concerned with his own political career.”
