Montana Democrats Denounce Republican Rep. Matt Rosendale for Vote Against Congressional Gold Medal for Capitol Police Officers
Helena, MT — The Montana Democratic Party is denouncing member of the Montana congressional delegation, Matt Rosendale, over his response on a vote taken in Washington, D.C. earlier today. Representative Rosendale was one of only twenty-one Republican legislators to come out against Congressional Gold Medal recognition for members of the Capitol Police and the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, joining controversial colleagues, such as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), in his vote.
“The Capitol and DC Police put their lives on the line to defend Congress and this country from violent insurrectionists who fought to disrupt the peaceful, democratic transfer of power on January 6th,” said Sandi Luckey, Executive Director of the Montana Democratic Party. “The Republican coalition has insulted that sacrifice by purposefully ignoring the exceptional bravery demonstrated by these officers. Rep. Rosendale claims to support law enforcement, but his vote has proven that to be nothing more than a campaign slogan. If you cannot recognize the heroic efforts of the individuals who protect the halls of Congress, then you should not be in Congress.”
Despite Republican reluctance, the involved departments will still receive the formal commendation for their work defending the U.S. Capitol building from the January 6th insurrection.
