Brutal Headlines After Rosendale Bails on #MTSen Debate

Helena – Despite promising reporters, “You’ll see me in Whitefish” for Sunday’s Senate debate with Sen. Jon Tester, wealthy East Coast developer Matt Rosendale backed out yesterday, choosing instead to hide from Montana voters and refusing to debate. Rosendale was also unwilling to debate his challenger on television in the general election for statewide office in 2016.

MTN News: GOP nominee Rosendale backs out of first scheduled debate with Sen. Tester
“Tester had agreed to Sunday’s debate in Whitefish, sponsored by the Montana Broadcasters Association, and Rosendale earlier had indicated he would participate, telling reporters he planned to be there. But his campaign pulled the plug Monday…”

Bozeman Daily Chronicle: Rosendale backs out of first U.S. Senate debate
“Davis said that as early as a week ago, Rosendale had told him and others from the broadcasters association he would be at the debate. ‘He was asked about the debate and said it was on his calendar, and then they waited till today to say they weren’t doing it,’ Davis said.”

NBC Montana: Montana U.S. Senate candidates trade barbs over debate plans
“Just last week, Rosendale told us he would definitely make the broadcasters debate. In a phone interview last Wednesday Rosendale said, ‘You’ll see me in Whitefish; I just i hope that everyone is going to be able to participate and that Jon Tester isn’t able to control this thing and keep the other parties from participating.’ After Rosendale said that we called the Montana Broadcasters Association. A spokesman told us Rosendale is not right about the exclusion of third-party candidates and pointed to the group’s criteria for debate participation.”
