Nancy Keenan, a veteran of Montana and national politics for more than three decades, has been the Executive Director of the Montana Democratic Party since 2015. Born in Anaconda, Nancy worked in the town smelter to pay her way through Montana State University Billings, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in education and special education. She taught children with special needs in Billings and Anaconda before becoming active in politics, which led her to serve four terms as a state legislator from Anaconda and three terms as State Superintendent of Public Instruction. In 2000 she ran a strong campaign for Montana’s at-large Congressional seat. Following her time as an elected official, Nancy worked as the education policy director for People For the American Way, an organization dedicated to making the promise of America real for every American from equality to freedom of speech to freedom or religion. In 2004, she became President of NARAL Pro-Choice America, where she helped produce huge gains for pro-choice elected officials in Congress. In 2013, she returned to Montana and stayed active as an advisor to Democratic candidates before starting as Executive Director.
